Find the Joy
Animal prints are a staple of the textile industry, making them a challenge to interpret in new ways. Our team set out to find the: “joy” with one of this seasons most popular themes, the zebra print. Here was our process.
Concept
From the conceptual stages we talked about the idea of “hiding in plain sight”. From this playful exploration the sketches evolved into the idea of intertwining two or more zebras and camouflaging them into the design. A fun way to incorporate more of an illustrative aspect into a print.
Create
Selecting ink as the medium was the most organic next step. Ink brings texture and luminosity that cannot be replicated through digital mediums. We felt that to honor the natural aspect of the graphic would require a more human approach as a base.
Altogether
We decided to push the design further by scanning the art and enhancing the colors to a color palette our team forecasted for the 27/28 season. The incorporation of digital elements made the piece a lot more playful and allowed us to also add to the collection by creating a matching “dot” print.
